It's not just a reskinning though, as you're given new weapons to take out the cyborg army with and while I didn't see any new vehicles during my time with the game, one can only assume they will feature. While the mechanics are essentially the same, you're given access to all the best perks you had by the end of the story in Far Cry 3, making you feel like a badass cyborg commando from the outset. You're given the missions at the outset to take down your former commander who has now gone rogue and heads a powerful cyborg army called Omega force. The environment received a neon going-over and it breathes new life into the lush jungle of the original game. Those who have played Far Cry 3 will be immediately accustomed to the controls, but the whole game has been given a facelift. You still play from the first-person perspective, hunting and causing havoc with a variety of weapons and flying around the environment in stolen vehicles. It still uses the same engine though, so the gameplay is ultimately the same.
Blood Dragon is a standalone, downloadable expansion for Far Cry 3, so it doesn't require the original game to play. The fact that there are two references to Predator in the first five minutes is a testament to the designers love of the era. The whole game is a throwback to the '80s style of VHS, pumping synth and action heroes that carried their chins around as sidekicks. If you called him a cliche, he'd probably sock you in the mouth.
A screenshot from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.īlood Dragon takes place in an alternative timeline and plops you into the combat boots of Sergeant Rex Power Colt (voiced by the self-referentially surly Michael Biehn), a gruff cyborg commando with a glowing red eye and a robotic arm.
